Digital Graphing Made Easy!

If you need your students to create a digital graph, then look no further than create a graph.  This one has been around for a while, but is super easy and it allows students to download the graph as a pdf or jpg.  This makes it perfect for inserting the graphs into a document or presentation.

Step 1:  Go to create a graph by clicking here.

Step 2: Choose what type of graph you would like to create.












Step 3: For this example, I chose bar graph.  As you can see it gives some options for direction shape and styles.














Step 4:  Just click down the list of tabs and insert your data.
























Step 5:  You can preview your graph at the preview tab.













Step 6:  If you like what you see, then click the print/save tab.  If not, go back to a previous tab to make changes.  Just don't forget to click the update button.

The print/save tab allows you to save your graph on your computer in a variety of formats including a .pdf and .jpg.  Both of these formats can easily be inserted into a Microsoft Office of Google Apps.




It is very user friendly and easy to maneuver.  Give it a try and lets make some graphs!!

How to Create a Shared Folder in Google Drive

I have had this request by many teachers in my district.  They want to share meeting minutes, documents, and lesson plans.  They want to see changes and edits when they are made and not have to keep up with several versions of the same document.  The easiest way to accomplish that is  by creating a shared folder in Google drive.






1.     Go to Google.com and if you are not signed in, then click the blue sign-in button in the top right hand corner.  Sign in with your Google email address.  If you do not have one, then you will need to create a free account.



2.     Near the top right, you will also see nine little squares.  This is your app menu.  Click on those nine squares and a menu will pop up.
3.     Choose drive in that menu.
4.     Find the orange-red create button toward the top left.
5.     Choose Folder
6.     Give the folder a name and click the create button.
7.     You will now see the folder show up in your drive list.
8.     Right click on the folder and choose share in the menu.
9.     A window will pop up with a invite people blank.  Type In the people you would like to have access to the folder.  Their names should popup and click on it.  Once you have everyone in, click OK.  (I unchecked to notify by email)
10. Next to each person’s name is a down arrow.  Here you can set permissions for can view or can edit.  You are the owner.
11. Click done.
12. Now all you have to do is open your folder you created by clicking on it.
13. You can drag and drop files where is says drop files here or you can click the orange and white up arrow, next to the create button.  Here you can choose witch files to upload.  Either way is fine.
14. The teachers you shared with, will need to log in to their Google account.  (Steps 1-3)  Once they are at drive, they will click shared with me or Incoming.  They should see your shared folder and see the items inside of it.

Welcome to the 2014-2015 School Year

I hope everyone had a great summer.  It sure seems like they go faster every year.  I took a break from blogging, presented at our local eLearning conference, took a trip to Myrtle Beach with my family, did some model railroading and mowed a lot of grass.  I started the season with five yards and now have 18, not including my own.  It is crazy.  For a few more weeks I will be a mowing fool after school.

By now, all school corporations in Indiana are back in session.  Today, we are starting our fourth week back.  I am pretty much back in full swing.  This year I am providing support and PD for a high school, two middle schools, and four elementary schools.  Our corporation is now 1:1 in 5th-12th grades.  Many of our 3rd and 4th graders have netbook carts and the 1st and 2nd graders are using a cart of iPad minis.  I am very excited about the possibilities this year.

This is not my first post of this school year.  If you missed it, last week I wrote a short post about using Flubaroo with the new version of sheets in Google Apps.  If you are a Flubaroo user, check it out.  Many things have changed in Google Forms and the scripts/add-ons that you can install.

I plan to continue writing at least one post a week this year, so please check in an see what is happening.  Over the Labor Day Weekend, I watched Dead Poets Society.  I had not seen it since I student taught 23 years ago.  I remember that the movie inspired me at the time and has again.  I plan to reflect on it in my next post.  I hope you will take a look at it!  It is going to be an awesome year!
