Control Your Computer From Your Tablet or Smartphone

I wish I could take credit for this one, but one of my sixth grade teachers found this tool.  The app is called mobile mouse lite.  This works especially well if you have a SMART or Promethean board in your classroom.  It will give you some mobility around the classroom without having to purchase an expensive slate.  You can simply use your current android or iOS device.

Follow the Steps Below

Download the app from the Google Play Store here or the iTunes Store here
Download and install the server software on your Mac or Windows computer.  This will allow your device to connect.  Some great setup instructions can be found at this site:

Make sure that your device and computer are connected to the same network.  To setup the connection between your tablet or smartphone, you will need the IP address for your computer. After you have completed the server software installation on your computer, click the Mobile Mouse icon to display the IP address of your computer.

You should then see your IP address:

You can now launch the app.  You may be asked to get the pro version, but just choose to dismiss it.  That is one of those small annoyances that you have to put up with for a free product.  This is a great free product.

On your device that you are using to control your computer, click the gear at the top left. See below for where to enter the IP address from your computer, press done and your device should now be connected and able to control your computer.

This is very important and will reduce frustration if you know and understand this.  If your network automatically assigns IP addresses, it is possible that you will have to setup the IP each time you restart your computer.

Click the gear to explore more options.  To make the digital keyboard appear and disappear, gently shake your device.  Enjoy!!
